Rural America, RURAL SCENE NEAR MARIETTA, WASHINGTON COUNTY, OHIO
This bucolic scene a few miles north of Marietta in Washington County, Ohio was selected by the United States Postal Service as the image for Ohio’s 2003 Bicentennial Postage Stamp. Fifty million of the 37c stamps were released on Statehood Day, March 1, 2003 on the steps of the Ross County Courthouse in Chillicothe, Ohio’s first State Capital. The farm that appears in the photograph was owned by the family of Clyde Knoch for 128 years before being sold to local businessman John Lehman in 1997.
