Bridges, S-Bridge, OH This is the only remaining S-bridge in use on the National Road. Built in 1826, the bridge is located near the town of Bridgewater in Guernsey County in eastern Ohio. The unusual S-shape of the bridge was designed to minimize the amount of angulated stonework needed to construct the bridge. Several other S-bridges have been preserved along the old National Road in Pennsylvania and Ohio, but only this bridge is still open to road traffic.
