Bridges, Iron Bridge, OH
The Echo Dell Bridge spans Beaver Creek in Beaver Creek State Park, located north of East Liverpool in Columbiana County, Ohio. The 129-foot iron bridge was built in 1910, and is based on a Pratt Truss design, originally patented by Thomas and Caleb Pratt in 1844. The Pratt truss is identified by its diagonal members which, except for the very end ones, all slant down and in toward the center of the bridge. The diagonal members are in tension, and the vertical members are in compression. The Pratt truss is a very efficient design, and many Pratt truss bridges built more than a century ago are still in daily use today.
