Architecture, THE CUPOLA HOUSE, EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA
The Cupola House was built for Francis Corbin, land agent for Lord Earl Granville, in 1758-59 in Edenton, North Carolina and is one of the finest examples of Jacobean style architecture in the United States. It is one of the few buildings that remain from two decades before the American Revolution. Signatures 150 years old are etched into the wavy glass used to make the window panes of the house. The exact construction date was determined by microscopic examination of the tree growth rings in the house timbers, a technique known as dendrochronology.
